The Sweet Smell of Online Shopping

October 4th, 2011

A bit of a late bloomer in the makeup and scent scene, I scored my first bottle of real designer brand perfume for my 16th birthday.

It’s not that I didn’t appreciate the allure of a fresh floral smell before this, but my young frivolous mind just couldn’t make a case for splashing out virtually $200 of hard earned pocket money to smell like the newest celebrity.

My mates knew me (and my tight wallet) well. Forking out for the best product around, they settled on a new Calvin Klein scent from a local shopping mall. I never saw the price tag, but I’m only able to assume it damaged the bank balance.

I absolutely loved it.

Sweet, delicate and subtle floral smells like I had never smelt before gave me the feminine attraction that I’d been missing out on all of these years. I wore each and every day. The perfume became part of my daily outfit, and I might get comments wherever I went.

As the proverb goes, all nice things come to an end. As my fragrance supplies were dwindling, I thought it was time to make the investment myself and go out and buy another bottle. This fragrance, after all , had become part of the new mature me.

I tried four stores. Nothing. Every store had run out of stock, and said they simply weren’t likely to get it back in. My new favourite fragrance had been dropped! I was shell-shocked. I couldn’t bear the concept of trudging around through stores looking to find a new signature fragrance.

So I turned to the Internet.

I had heard about web shopping from my friends and had been told about the extraordinary range and cheap prices that you might find. Bearing in mind this was before web shopping had reached its current level of recognition, finding my now abandoned Ralph Lauren perfume online appeared a prospect too good to be accurate.

Feeling a bit down hearted, I jumped on my laptop and commenced perusing. A few sites came up promising discount designer brand scents, so I clicked on one of the Australian sites and performed a quick search for my now-extinct signature scent.

I held my breath.

There it was! In all its former glory, my Ralph Lauren scent turned up on the page, was in stock and was heavily discounted. Without delay I put a couple of bottles in my virtual shopper cart and headed straight to the checkout.

Inside a week I had both my confidence and private fragrance back, and so my obsession with online shopping had begun!

With such a massive choice of brands, scents and cosmetics at insanely low prices all prepared to be sent directly to your door, I should never retail shop for fragrances again – and if you are a special hunter like I am neither will you!
